Leaellynasaura
Leaellynasaura was a small ornithopod dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous Period, approximately 118–110 million years ago. It was discovered in southeastern Australia, which was located within the Antarctic Circle during the Cretaceous, making it one of the best-known polar dinosaurs.

Leaellynasaura had a lightweight body, long hind legs, and a long tail that may have helped with balance while moving through its cold forest environment. It reached around 2–3 meters (6.5–10 feet) in length and was likely a fast, agile herbivore that fed on low-growing plants, ferns, and other vegetation.

One of its most unusual features was its large eyes and enlarged optic lobes, suggesting it may have had excellent vision. This adaptation may have helped it survive in polar regions where seasonal darkness occurred during the winter months. Scientists believe Leaellynasaura may have remained active year-round rather than migrating.

Its fossils provide important evidence that dinosaurs lived in extreme environments, including the cold, high-latitude regions near the ancient South Pole. Leaellynasaura shows that dinosaurs were highly adaptable and could thrive in habitats very different from the warm environments commonly associated with them.
